I have always bee
n a reader and a fan of Bart’s Bookshelf. In the ya book blogosphere that is dominated by female bloggers blogging mostly about gal-friendly books, Darren(the guy behind Bart’s Bookshelf) is a kind of hero for guy readers like me. I would not have met the amazing, badass and drool-worthy Ellie Linton of James Marsden’s Tomorrow series if not for him.
Now that he is hosting a reading challenge, YA Dystopia Challenge, I am more that ecstatic to participate. YA Dystopia is my favorite YA Fiction genre so this isn’t really much of a challenge for me. There are three levels for this challenge and being the big dystopian fiction junkie that I am, I’m entering Level 3.
Level 3: Is for the dystopian die-hards! Minimum requirement for this level is five young adult dystopian novels, between the 1st October and 19th December. There is, however no maximum cap, you can keep reading for as many books as you like!Without further ado, I give you my YA Dystopia Book Pool:
1. Black Hole Sun – David Macinnis Gill
2. The Roar – Emma Clayton
3. Obernewtyn – Isobelle Camory
4. The Scorch Trials – James Dashner
5. The Adoration of Jenna Fox – Mary E. Pearson
I’ve heard a lot of good praises for The Roar and Black Hole Sun, it would be downright idiocy not to include those. For Obernewtyn, aside from its title that may ensue a moment of dyslection, its premise really intrigues me. It’s supposed to be about a Post- Nuclear Holocaust future and mental power showdowns. Now, that’s not a typical dystopian book. For my fourth one, I’ve read The Maze Runner and I really liked it, it’s only fair to include the sequel, The Scorch Trials, which will come out this October to that list. Lastly, I’m adding The Adoration of Jenna Fox just for the sake of variety because the first four, I assume, are all action-driven books.
Considering my unbridled love for dystopian books, I guess I won’t need this but since this is my first reading challenge, so be it:
May the odds be in my favor!

I realized lately that I am leaning towards a lot of dystopia, too, after I discovered that I don’t like reading paranormal romance (or sometimes even contemporary YA romance). It just feels like everything’s been done with those two sub-genre. There is something about dystopian books that’s just really fun (for the lack of better words).
Hmmm. I could join this challenge, too. I think I may be crazy enough to enter Level 3 like you, but I would have to check my TBR to see if I have 5 dystopian books.
You are slowly being converted to being a ya dystopian partisan like me!! I still need to push it a little more then you’ll totally become another Ariel and Ace story! Woot!
Go for Level 5! I know your TBR shelf will comply. I know you already got these books on your pile:
1. GONE – Michael Grant
2. Tomorrow, When The War Began – John Marsden
3. The Dead of the Night – John Marsden
4. The Ask and the Answer – Patrick Ness(since you’re reading The Knife already.)
Then, I can lend you Charles Higson’s The Enemy!
Just make sure you won’t read any of those before October 1st. The whole challenge will run from Oct 1. to December 19 so no pressure there.
Wait, is it Level 3 or Level 5? Hehe. I think I may have a fifth one na, I got an ARC ebook yesterday: Those That Wake by Jessie Karp. I think that’s dystopian, too.
But sure, I’ll borrow The Enemy! You know my love relationship with zombies.
Hm. All you three have names that start with A. Maybe I should change my name to Ana. Heh.
That was one long synopsis. Yeah, include that on your list. If you gave it a good review, I’ll read it.
Congrats for having an ARC!
Aren’t zombies the most awesome fictional creature?! I don’t get why are they always compared to vampires. If I were a zombie, I would be offended. XP
And I mean 5 books for Level 3. Pardon the stupid keyboard.
Hi Aaron! Welcome! Wow, it’s good to know a fellow Grant fan! I’ve just finished GONE and it is super great! I love the book! Wait for my review on it! My favorite characters are, of course, Sam and Astrid. Thanks for dropping by! GOD bless! Here’s the link on my blog where you left a message: http://bookablereads.blogspot.com/2010/09/long-long-journey.html
I don’t know about that. I find Sam and Astrid a little too… clean? They are actually my least favorite characters. Good thing, they upped their game at LIES.
Michael Grant will release his latest book on October, btw. It is entitled The Call, first book of the Magnificent 12. Check out the book trailer here. Now, I sound like his promoter.
Oh wow!
That’s quite the introduction!
Glad to see you taking part in the challenge.
(Also glad to know you love the awesomeness that is Ellie Linton!)
Glad you’re hosting the challenge. I could not wait for it to start. I saw your book pool and you got quite an interesting selections there. Looking forward to your reviews of those.
Hahahaha, I’ve signed up but not yet done with my post. I’ll be aiming for level 3 too.
